The Journal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics is an international, open-access journal for the basic disciplines of water sciences.

The scope of hydrology is limited to biohydrology, catchment hydrology, and vadose zone hydrology. Submitted papers should be original research papers that enhance the science in the above-mentioned parts of hydrology.

The hydromechanics covers theoretical, experimental and computational hydraulics and fluid mechanics in various fields, two- and multiphase flows, including non-Newtonian flow, and new frontiers in hydraulics.

The Journal publishes original research papers, case studies, and reviews that have been thoroughly peer reviewed. The submitted papers should present and analyse past and/or future conditions and design solutions, or provide new knowledge or results compared to other previously published studies (comparative science). Novelty of the contribution should be clearly presented. The journal particularly welcomes research papers that deliver new insights into region-specific hydrological or hydrodynamic processes and responses to changing conditions.

The authors are not subject to any publication fees.

Key topics include but are not limited to:

1. Hydrological modelling for reservoir and dam safety assessment under floods, seismic loads, and changing climate
2. Sediment transport and reservoir sedimentation: impacts on hydropower operation and management strategies
3. Eco-hydraulic engineering and river ecological restoration: processes, design, and effectiveness evaluation
4. Vadose zone hydrology, soil water dynamics, and water-saving irrigation technologies
5. Biohydrology: vegetation–water interactions and the hydrological functions of riparian and catchment ecosystems
6. Hydraulic transients, surge analysis, and system stability in hydropower and water conveyance systems
7. Computational and experimental hydraulics of hydraulic structures, including two-phase and multiphase flows
8. Data-driven and intelligent methods for flood forecasting, early warning, and real-time water management
9. BIM, digital twins, and smart monitoring for hydraulic and civil infrastructure
10. Groundwater–surface water interactions and subsurface hydrological processes in deep underground space development
11. Climate change impacts on hydrological extremes and the adaptation of water infrastructure systems
12. Durability and long-term performance of hydraulic concrete structures under water loading and aggressive environments
13. Advanced sensing and monitoring technologies for hydrological and hydraulic observations
